I don't know if you've heard, but Google's making headlines. Yes indeed. Whilst Apple hangs on to their small fortune, Google decides to help Sprint and Clearwire Inc. close their deal to merge certain assets expediting the development of WiMax. Which for those of you who don't know is Sprint's only hope to compete with AT&T and Verizon who are developing the 4G network already. But don't worry, Google only fronted a portion of the bill, sharing it with fellow investors such as Comcast and Intel. It's expected launch date is the first quarter of next year.

Google also making headlines, although not in the greatest way, by under performing the iPhone App Store by a significant margin. However, where Apple lacks in open-source, ease of use applications, Google makes up for it, claiming to have hundreds of people developing applications for the new G1 (exclusive to T-Mobile). This was the death of the iPod and Apple's stanglehold on that industry, if you can recall. So I wouldn't say the battle is lost their either.

Google again making headlines, claiming in their official blog, to have sorted 1 petabyte (or 1024 terabytes) in 68 seconds on 1,000 computers. This beat the previous record set by Yahoo and marks an amazing advancement in technology. Congratulations on that guys.

And finally, the news Google doesn't want you to know. Forbes tells us that Google finally ditches the people riding around on bikes collecting video footage for Google Maps. I consider this a good cut. That technology was getting a little creepy. Also included in the layoffs were members of Google's book search project. Even though it seemed as though the advertising-driven giant was not being affected by the economy, we get wind of this. Sneaky Google, sneaky.
