I recently recommended that one of my customers use a registry cleaner periodically to keep his PC from building up registry corruption. This would get his computer's speed back up to normal. He told me he was surprised to hear me recommend a registry cleaner because he read an article demeaning their use. He asked if I was really sure he should be using one.
It is true there are some registry cleaners available that are not very good, but usually these are free cleaners and like with anything else, you get what you pay for. Still, cleaning a computer's registry with the right registry cleaner can get a computer that is slow and crashing on occasion back up and running at 100% speed and error free once again.
I will use this article to explain registry corruption is a very real thing. It can raise havoc with a computer's performance. I hope to put to rest the myth that registries never need to be cleaned and in fact, using a good one can save your computer's life!
Yes, Registry Corruption Really Exists
I can guarantee you registry corruption is a real thing! In fact, all the times I've worked on PC 's that didn't have registry cleaning programs installed, I have never seen one of them that didn't at least have some amount of registry corruption present. Sometimes I will find such a computer loaded down and hardly performing basic functions because of registry corruption.
Without cleaning corruption out of a PC, it will become slower and slower. In time, it will commit errors and eventually the "blue screen of death" becomes inevitable! Oh, you may be able to get away with leaving some amount of corruption in the registry for awhile, but eventually it will come back to bite you.
Registry Corruption is More of a Problem Now Than It Was Just a Few Years Ago
I know it seems ironic today's new super-charged operating systems need to be kept free of corruption when older OS's, like Windows 95 and 98 seemed to be able to go on forever without having their registries cleaned. Basically, the reason for this is everything in Windows XP and Vista are huge. The software installed on them are huge and this means the corruption this software leaves behind is huge. So, whereas old OS's could work around corruption in an instant, the new operating systems have much more to slog through as they work their way to their destination.
Remember, a PC that is slow and generally speaking, is not acting right may be doing so because of spyware and/or viruses. Since these things can cause harm to your financial health and since spyware and viruses, once they are removed, leave registry corruption behind, it is best to run a virus/spyware cleaner regularly. However, if you are reasonably sure your computer is free of spyware and viruses and you are still having problems with it, probably your registry is corrupt and you need to run a registry cleaner.
A Cost Effective Alternative to a Major Repair
If you are on a mission to stay away from registry cleaners, what do you do about registry corruption? Without using a registry cleaner, you will have to go into the registry yourself and manually clean it; this is something few people are qualified to do.
Being a Certified Computer Professional, I was trained to deal with registry problems by editing registries manually. I rarely go into the registry manually any more because top notch registry cleaners are now available. Working in the registry the old fashion way is not only time consuming, it is very confusing. One wrong move and you could bring the down whole operating system!
If you're not going to work on a corrupt registry manually and you're not going to use a commercial registry cleaner, your only other choice is to stand by and watch as registry corruption eats your computer alive!
So the bottom line is, if you are sure your computer has no problems with spyware/viruses and the registry is free of corruption, you probably have a bigger problem. Still, I have gotten many a computer back off the mat and working to its full potential again just by scanning for viruses/spyware and then cleaning the registry.
